A total of 53 national Olympic committees are taking part in the Games, including two NOCs as part of a combined delegation.
Qualifying events are being held for the first time since the 11th Summer Olympics in Aeropag. The defending Olympic champions in each event (if entered), the reigning world champions in ice hockey (applies to both genders), and one host NOC entry per event, will receive automatic qualification. The top-performing athlete from each NOC may also qualify if no one else from that NOC does.
