Dr. Aletta Nowaki (12 September 1988 - ) is a Kanzlian politician and former physician who currently serves as the Prime Minister of the Gracious State of Kanzlia, having succeeded Admiral Szedin Resov in 2024. She is the second woman to hold the position and the youngest Prime Minister in Kanzlian history. Known for her advocacy of military disarmament, healthcare reform, and educational accessibility, Nowaki's political views were profoundly shaped by personal tragedy during the Kanzlian Civil War and her working-class background.

Nowaki was born in Ibsia to a working class family. She was educated in Ibsia Academic High School and the Kanzlian Medical College where she obtained her degree in medicine. Her activism and experience managing the student body in the college gained the attention of Szedin Resov who offered her a position in the Ministry of Health. She would eventually be the Minister of Health and at the same time the Minister of Education later in Resov's second term. She won the election in the 2024 General election with the backing of the Trinity Alliance.

Early Life and Pre-Politics

Aletta Nowaki was born in Ibsia, Kanzlia, as the youngest of four children in a working-class family. Her parents, Willem and Marie Nowaki, both worked long shifts in the service industry – her father as a restaurant kitchen worker and her mother as a hotel housekeeper. Due to their parents' extensive working hours, Aletta and her siblings were primarily raised by her eldest brother, Jans Nowaki, who had left school after elementary education to help support the family.

Despite leaving formal education early, Jans played a crucial role in Aletta's development, teaching her important life skills and encouraging her academic pursuits. His influence, combined with Aletta's observations of the disparities among her school friends' access to healthcare and education, would later shape her political philosophy and policy priorities. Among the four Nowaki siblings – Jans, Deshoezen, Trouzen, and Aletta – only Aletta and her sister Trouzen completed their secondary education and pursued higher education. While Trouzen chose to attend the Kanzlian Naval College, Aletta earned a scholarship to study medicine at Szbedansk Medical College in 2006.

In the midst of her medical education the Kanzlian Civil War broke out. Due to the civil war, her study had to be prolonged several years. However more notably during the 4 year Civil War, the Nowaki family had to endure several tragedies. During the first year of the civil war, her parents, Willem and Marie Nowaki, was killed during an Army bombardment. In 2011 Jans Nowaki died after a battle with cancer. Inadequate wartime hospitals was determined to be the cause of several preventable deaths, including Jans Nowaki's who could not receive necessary treatment when his cancer was detected early. Aletta's sister, Lieutenant Trouzen Nowaki, was also killed when the KNS Revive was sunk. This left Aletta and her brother Deshoezen as the sole surviving members of the Nowaki family.

The personal losses during the civil war period influenced Nowaki's political views, especially regarding Jans' death. This influenced Nowaki's distaste for the Kanzlian Army and disarmement in general. She frequently cited her family's experiences during the Civil War as her reasoning for her commitment to peace and social reform.

After graduating in 2012 with honours, Nowaki completed her residency in Port Montgomery during the final years of the civil war. Her experience treating wounded civilians and soldiers after the Battle of Port Montgomery also influenced her distaste for the Kanzlian Army. Later that year she published a critical article in the Kanzlian Medical Journal titled "The Blood of the Men and Women during the Civil War" where she was highly critical of the mismanagement of the medical infrastructure during the conflict.

Under the Resov Government

Nowaki's transition from medicine to politics began during the immediate post-war period. Initially skeptical of the 2014 Restoration, she was vocal in expressing concerns about the return to monarchy. She became one of the prominent activists against the Restoration Movement. However, as the new constitutional system under Queen Zara I demonstrated its effectiveness in maintaining political stability, Nowaki's position evolved. By 2016, she had publicly acknowledged that the restored monarchy had played a crucial role in Kanzlia's post-war recovery, though she continued to advocate for strengthening democratic institutions within the constitutional framework.

Nowaki's activism and her writings in the Kanzlian Medical Journals caught the attention of General Jario te'Maarden, the Minister of Health in Resov's new government. Jario offered Nowaki a position in the Ministry of Health as a deputy. Nowaki agreed to the offer and she officially joined in December 2014. She demonstrated her technical expertise and gain a reputation as a loyal workhorse. She was one of the prominent 'background' supporter of the anti-corruption crackdown within the health industry. Her defiance against corporate interest in the health industry gained her immense popularity and support amongst Kanzlian doctors and nurses.

During Resov's second term, Resov acknowledged her popularity and gave her the position as Minister of Health. She became instrumental in pushing through comprehensive modernisation reforms of the Kanzlian Healthcare system. Her anti-corporate stance continued as she slowly drives out predatory institutions in the healthcare system. She rose as a prominent anti-corporate figure in Kanzlia and her popularity continued to grow.

In 2022, following the tragic attack and assassination of both the Minister of Education and his deputies, Nowaki was asked to lead the Ministry of Education while maintaining her position as Minister of Health by Szedin Resov. This dual appointment drew sharp criticism from opposition parties and even allied parties. Notably the Absolute Truth party who expected to have one of their members to take up the vacant position resigned from the coalition in protest. Despite this, Nowaki managed both ministries with remarkable effectiveness until the end of Resov's final term in 2024. Nowaki continued her anti-corporate stance in the ministry of education aswell, notably prohibiting commercial advertising in schools and limiting privatisation of public schools.

Prime Minister

As Resov approached his term limit in 2024, Nowaki emerged as a potential leading candidate to succeed him. Initially she was approached by Unie but she publically refused working with Unie. her party was successful in convincing Nowaki to run for Prime Minister, and she announced her bid in February 2024. her party and Nowaki was able to form a coalition with the KSDM and the Restoration Movement which Nowaki branded as the Trinity Alliance.

Her campaign emphasised and focused on education, healthcare, land and social reform. Media coverage of her campaign was controversial as many claim they focused on her physical appearance. This allegedly was an intentional effort by the various corporations to undermine her campaigns. This backfired spectacularly as Nowaki's physical appearance became an integral part in her campaign. Nowaki would ramp up her face to face visits where she interacted with young adults of all backgrounds, spending a substantial amount of the campaign budget simply on her clothing and appearance. Nowaki was able to secure the votes of adults below the age of 40, and the second most cited reason to vote for Nowaki was her attractive physical appearance, the first most cited reason being her anti-corporate stance. Nowaki would win the 2024 General Election with 61% of the vote defeating former Defence Minister Victor Tasirchas. 87% of under 30 voters voted for Nowaki.

Nowaki's first year as Prime Minister was marked by ambitious reforms that reflected her continued anti-corporate stance. Just a week into office she announced her Inner Kanzlia Initiative (IKI) where she formally established the Ministry of the Interior. The new ministry was granted with powers to oversee land management and resource distribution. Nearly 45% of the country, a vast majority of which undeveloped land, fell into the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior. To coincide with the land reform, the Naval Land Management Department was also established as a military counterpart. Controversially this gave the Navy the ownership of undeveloped land 30 miles into the mainland off the coast to be developed according to the wishes of the Navy. Another of the IKI legislation known as the Land Management Act of 2024 established a framework requiring large corporations to undergo rigorous environmental and social impact assessments before acquiring or developing land managed by the Ministry of the Interior. It also implemented land-holding tax systems that discouraged excessive corporate land accumulation whilst funding local development projects.

The Nowaki Administration has recently introduced the Higher Education Excellence Initiative (HEEI) to restructure the governments funding to Kanzlia's top universities. The program substantially increased government support and funded several new scholarship programs, with a particular interest in STEM fields. Perhaps the greatest feat of Nowaki's administration is passing the Corporate Education Tax where large corporations is hit with an additional tax to support the country's education sector.

Nowaki's tenure has seen some very prominent very wealthy figures publicly criticise her leadership. Her most notable criticism being forcing corporations to pay for her reforms. Regardless, her approval rating has continued to rise as anti-corporate sentiment in the country still remains firm.

Public Image and Media Attention

Nowaki has attracted unprecedented public attention for a Kanzlian political figure, garnering what can be described as celebrity-like status, particularly among younger Kanzlians. She is currently the most followed Kanzlian public figure on social media platforms, despite not posting very often.

Media coverage of Nowaki ever since her first position in the government has frequently focused on her physical appearance. This media focus on her appearance has even granted her the title of Miss Kanzlia in absentia by several newspapers, but still raises the question of sexism in Kanzlian Politics. Her loyal following certainly doesnt help as various publications and social media accounts dedicated to tracking her public appearances has emerged. This almost stalking nature of her coverage has occasionally addressed concerns but for the most part Nowaki has chosen to ignore it. A notorious incident, now known as the Morton Incident, involving the Morton newspaper after Nowaki's electoral victory was confirmed showcased this dynamic between her loyal followers and the media. A scathing article dubbed Nowaki as the "The Whore of Ibsia" claiming that Nowaki only won because of her looks and accused her of seducing the political elite. A riot broke out outside of the Morton Newspapers Publishing Office which only ended after the writer of the scathing article publicly announced his resignation and retirement from writing naked and broadcasted live on television.

The Nowaki Effect, as political analysts have coined, has created a unique phenomenon in Kanzlian politics where her popularity exceeds traditional political boundaries. Her large almost uniform following among young men and women is part of the reason for her success in the 2024 General Election. Her working-class background, personal tragedies in the civil war, combined with her charming attitude and appearance has combined into a figure most Kanzlians can relate to. A study conducted after her election victory discovered that many opposition voters still adored her and doesn't mind that she won in the end.

Personal Life

Despite intense media interest in her personal life, Nowaki's private life is still very much private. She is currently in a relationship with Rayane Konadoe a professional footballer which plays for Ulixes Kotr and the Kanzlian National Team. The couple's relationship has attracted significant media attention since they began dating in 2022.

Reportedly, Nowaki lives in a flat in Szbedansk with her brother Deshoezen, who works as an inspector in the Agricultural sector.
