Current: 2025 Bhumi Elite League

The Bhumi Elite League a.k.a Elite League or Megaphone Elite League for sponsorship reason, is a professional association football league in Bhumi Matawis Empire and the highest level of Bhumi Matawis football league system.

Founded in late 2015, the league start its first season in 2016 with 18 clubs before dropping to 12 clubs starting from 2020 season. It operates on a promotion-relegation system with Bhumi Championship League. Both leagues are operated by Matawis Professional Football (Basatu: Sepakbola Profesional Matawis).

Throughout its history, the league has face some major changes especially after the merger attempts made by BMFA to unite all existing leagues within the empire under Bhumi League umbrella. This attempt end in 2025 season after the last 3 regional leagues finally join in. Persekarta Kartasura won the latest edition of Bhumi Elite League in 2024. This was their second title. While the most successful club is Perselab Labuanjaya who managed to win 3 titles.

History

Before the merger (pre-2016)

The first football league in Bhumi Matawis was Liga Sepakbola Matawis (LSM, Matawis Football League). It was established in 1968. But because of the empire heavily decentralized and the lax law impose by BMFA, there were more than one league within the country. In fact there were 11 leagues that were run consistently in the country, one for each region or even constituent state. LSM itself was joined by clubs from Matawis metropole, Pasudara and Medanthen Island. Over the years, Liga Sepakbola Matawis become more and more prestigious and competitive. It become the largest league amongst them.

In 1994, LSM enter its professional era. The change was gradual but impactful. The other leagues follow suit. But the idea of a one single league that embody the whole empire also slowly arise. The first plan was laid out in 2010 with LSM opening its door to accept a clubs that wants to join them without completely abolished the other league. But the idea was rejected as the other league organizers wants a completely new league to be created. Despite the opposition, BMFA continue its plan and established Bhumi League in 2015.

Early years (2016-2019)

Following the kick off of the new league, East Andalas Football League agree to merge. On the other hand, Persesam Sambuyutan from Liga Mahakam decide to join Bhumi League and face sanction from Mahakam Football Federation. The inaugural season prove successful with Persenggalu Junggalu came out as the winner. Despite its success, the merger seen a strong dominance of clubs from Matawis Metropole. In the first 4 years of the competition, before the implementation of the new third tier, only 2 clubs from outside Metropole that reach the top 4 in Elite League. PSPS Payung Sekaki who placed 4th in 2016 season and Meru United who placed 3 times in the top 4, 2017 (4th), 2018 (3rd), 2019 (1st). Meru United also become the only non-Metropole club to win the Elite League.

First change (2020-2022)

BMFA suggested to Matawis Professional Football (MPF) to introduce a third-tier league to improve the competitiveness of the league. After some deliberation, MPF passed the additional league into the league system. Although it didn't change the club composition. They rather cut the number of the clubs in the league. So, starting the 2020 season, only 12 clubs were competing in Bhumi Elite League. But the plan was far from success.

Meru United once again become the only non-Metropole club that can compete in the higher class. They even transform themselves to become a major football club in the empire. Position themselves with big names such as Persenggalu Junggalu, Perselab Labuanjaya and Persekarta Kartasura. Aside Meru United, only one other non-Metropole club that compete in the top flight. They are PSBR Balawan Raya. They almost got relegated in 2020 season. Luckily, they won the playoff match against Al-Dhima City FC and stay in the league. Al-Dhima eventually promoted to Elite League in 2022 after winning the 2021 playoff against Persekuta Kutagedhe. Balawan itself mostly placed in the bottom half of the league with their best result was 7th place.

Twice changing

Starting 2023 season, the league face a major change. Much of the clubs from the 2022 season didn't make it through the next season. This because a new quota system implemented by MPF to attract other regional leagues to join. The changes bring more non-Metropole teams into the Elite League. And the last change is apply in the 2025 season after the last remaining regional leagues agreed to merge. With this merge, BMFA and MPF success to unite the diverse regional leagues within the empire. And now they can focus to improving the clubs outside of the Metropole as we can see the disparity between them.
