Local government in Darmen
Local government in Darmen is primarily the responsibility of Darmen's municipalities. Regions also exist, but currently only serve electoral and statistical purposes, except in Esportivan Darmen where a regional government has been established and enjoys a limited amount of autonomy. Darmen is a unitary state, so its administrative subdivisions have only those powers which are delegated to them by central government.

Municipalities
Darmen's municipalities are the primary organizations through which local government and services are provided through. Darmen has 161 municipalities in total: 72 in mainland Darmen and 89 in Esportivan Darmen. Each municipality in Darmen is led by a Mayor, who is elected from among the municipal councilors and maintains the municipal council's confidence throughout their term in office. Municipal elections occur every four years, although there will be only a two year gap between the 2049 municipal elections and the subsequent ones in 2051 as the municipal elections are transitioned to take place between national elections.

Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods are a subdivision of municipalities. Each municipality has at minimum one neighborhood, with each municipality having one neighborhood for every 10,000 inhabitants. Each neighborhood is required by law to have a post office, fire station and polling place. Neighborhoods have no government of their own, they serve merely to ensure the proper distribution of municipal services.
