The 2023 DSAFF Comrades Cup, also known as 2023 Comrades Cup or simply Yucatan-Hortizo 2023, was the 2023 edition of the Comrades Cup, organised by the football federation of Delusia, the Democratic Socialist Assembly Football Federation (DSAFF). It took place from 17 June 2023 to 16 July 2023 in Yucatan and Hortizo.
Initially launched as an exclusive tournament for Delusia nations, the tournament subsequently expanded, becoming an invitation-only event. Sixteen teams took part to the tournament, coming from five different regions.
Sixty-Four matches were played in twelve venues across ten cities. Host nations Yucatan and Hortizo were both defeated in the semi-finals. In the final, debutant nation Akach faced DSA's Ukotrium (UEC) on 16 July at Estadio Olímpico Luis Rivera in Mérida, Yucatan. Akach won the match 4–2 to claim their first Comrades Cup.
The event featured a number of accolades. Kenza Ayache of Akach was voted the tournament's best player, while Laëtitia Tatah of Akach was voted best young player. The best goalkeeper award went to Marċell Natale of Ukotrium. Three players – Angélica Valadez, Bastjan Schieda and Gábriel Rodrigo – finished the tournament having scored five goals each, but Rodrigo was awarded the Golden Boot on account of having played fewer minutes. The award for best coach went to Kurt Lappainen of Lannistter.
History
After failing to expand the number of teams participating in the Comrades Cup to 32 the previous year, DSAFF's further growth over the course of 2022 allowed the federation to reach the expected number of entries with ease.
Thirty of the forty-nine national teams affiliated to DSAFF decided to participate, together with the first and second positioned in the COTEFU qualifying group. UFS Mexico, after unexpectedly winning the 2022 Frost Cup, returned two years later to participate in the Comrades Cup. Gondwana qualified as runners-up.
Six international teams made their official debut in a DSAFF competition: Batavior, Cat Army, Hithridge, New Eestiball, the United Malay Federation and the Vicures Islands. Thirteen international teams, on the other hand, made their debut in an edition of the Comrades Cup; in addition to the six already mentioned: Akach, Alyraa, Furilisca, Nachturne, Philosophical Psychologists, RistiLand and Sörslúth.
Host nation
After receiving two official bids, the DSAFF Congress was called to vote to decide the host of the third edition of the Comrades Cup on March 13, 2023.
UFS Mexico submitted its bid for the second year in a row, while Yucatan and Hortizo joined forces to submit their second joint bid following Lannistter and Ardelark's the previous year.
By fourteen votes to six, Yucatan and Hortizo were officially announced as the host countries of the competition on March 18, 2023. For the first time in DSAFF history, a tournament was therefore held in two different states.
The offical logo of the competition was created by a team of Nordustran designers and unveiled on June 4th, the day of the group stage draw.
Venues
A total of twelve different stadiums were chosen to host the third edition of the Comrades Cup, around ten different cities. The group stage was equally distributed, with groups from A to D playing in Hortizo and groups from E to H playing in Yucatan.
